2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane Limited

The company, 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane Limited, has been established as the Local Organizing Committee responsible for the staging of the 2001 Goodwill Games in Brisbane. 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane Limited is wholly-owned by the Queensland State Government and is managed by a Board of Directors. The Chairman of the Board reports from time to time to the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Racing. It is a non-profit organization.

Developed in concept following the Olympic boycotts of 1980 and 1984, the Goodwill Games are a multi sport invitational where the world's best athletes come together to prove their abilities on the world stage.

From August 29 to September 9, 2001, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia will have the opportunity to showcase its talents to the rest of the world when, for the first time, the Goodwill Games will be hosted by a city outside of the USA or the former USSR.

The 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane are hosted through a combined effort between Goodwill Games, Inc., 2001 Goodwill Games Brisbane Limited, and the participating sports federations, in conjunction with the appropriate state and city governmental agencies. Goodwill Games, Inc. is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the event. Goodwill Games, Inc. is a division of Turner Sports.
